The 14th Habano Festival Opens

With the launch of the Cohiba Pirámides Extra –the brand’s first figurado and a deluxe addition to its Linea Clasica- the 14th Habano Festival opened Monday night with a gala held at the Karl Marx Theater.
Cohiba Pirámides Extra, the star of the night, is a long-sized habano (ring gauge 54 x 160mm long) that stands out for being the brand’s first figurado and for carrying a number of anti-fakery elements, like visible and concealed holographs splayed in the new band and aluminum tube, both featuring innovations in terms of design and security that guarantee better and faster identification for those who love this exclusive Habano.
The delegates also enjoyed the Eclectic Us show starred by Cuban performer Augusto Enriquez and guest musicians Phil Manzanera –lead guitarist from Roxy Music and a renowned musical producer- and Jack Bruce, former member of the band Cream that also featured such great performers as Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker. Pucho Lopez and the Sexto Sentido vocal quartet were also part of the entourage.
At the welcome cocktail that followed the opening with billows of smoke wafting up from the new Cohiba Pirámides Extras, over 1,500 delegates from some 70 nations, including 23 journalists from 23 countries, talked about the vast array of activities scheduled for this year’s festival, including such highlights as the visits to the Vuelta Abajo tobacco plantations today and the much-anticipated tour to the La Corona and El Laguito cigar factories on Thursday.
