Blindfolded Tasting Winner to Be Honored Today

Foreign guests attending the Festival were also present in this special tasting session

One of the most unique tests of this Festival edition, the Blindfolded Habano Tasting, gave half a dozen finalists the chance to identify the unmarked Partagas Shorts, Cohiba Siglo IV and Montecristo Edmundo vitolas.

The contest –held for the first time ever- demanded tremendous professional mastery of the trade from the five cigar factory tasters and a sommelier from the National Hotel, who got down to the wire after a tough preliminary round among a dozen participants.

The grand finale of the competition, led by Juan Jose Lopez, an expert with the Tobacco Research Institute, and sommelier professor Fernando Fernandez, was open to a large turnout of foreign guests attending the Festival. They all tasted the abovementioned vitolas –completely unmarked- and put their knowledge on selected Cuban cigars to the test. Today, during the closing of the Seminar and the Tradeshow, the contest winner will be announced.
