Multi-Grammy-winning Cuban musician Chucho Valdes brought down the house during the 12th Habano Festival’s opening night.

Inspired by his own liking for cigar smoking, Valdes called two other boldface names onstage: Brazilian musician and songwriter Ivan Lins and Portuguese singer Mariza.

The blend of Cuban rhythms performed by the trio, the impact of jazz and the beat of Brazilian and Portuguese songs generated a perfect combination that was applauded by over 1,000 festival attendants from 70 nations.

Valdes himself commented that was an unforgettable concert with high-class guests and the accompaniment of his band’s excellent musicians.

Chucho Valdes was born in 1941 in the town of Quivican. This pianist, songwriter and arranger is considered one of the world’s best jazz musicians and one of the greatest and most talented keyboardists of today.

With three Grammy awards under his belt, this year he grabbed another gramophone for his album Together Forever with his father Bebo Valdes.
