With more rented space than in the previous edition, a grand total of 68 booths and over 1,500 participants from around the globe, the International Habano Festival’s Tradeshow was inaugurated yesterday at the Havana Intl. Conference Center.
“We wish you all a very warm welcome,” said Mr. Malmierca during his keynote speech at the Festival’s opening. Senior execs from Habanos S.A. also attended the opening. Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, exhibitors and authorities exchanged greetings and wished one another a very successful fair.
In his opening remarks, Minister Malmierca praised the festival as a gathering that always helps to build on stronger ties of friendship among many people from all around the world who share a passion for the Habano. He also touted the attendance of exhibitors linked to such Cuban commodities as coffee, lobster and rum, items whose undisputed quality make a perfect match with Cuba’s premium cigars.
Mr. Malmierca underscored the significance of the Festival as a platform for Cuba to get in touch with the world in commercial, economic and even cultural terms. In this respect, the Cuban Minister underlined the participation of Nelson Dominguez, winner of the National Fine Arts Prize.
