Fifteen companies and personalities that have been part of the Habano Festival’s fifteen editions were praised by Habanos S.A. during the closing of the event’s tradeshow.

Such entities as Grupo Palco, Grupo Tabacuba, Fondo Cubano de Bienes Culturales, Palmares S.A in Pinar del Rio, Hotel Nacional, Altadis S.A., Havana Club Internacional, Cerveceria Bucanero S.A, Los Portales S.A, Cubacafé and Epicure magazine, as well as personalities like Simon Chase, Fernando Fernandez and Raul Valladares, were among the awardees.

An honorary mention went to the Habano Group itself as leading company in the sale and development of that product in the country.

Following intense days of presentations, assessments and tensions, the 15th Habano Festival awards were presented this Friday in the Best Modular Booth Design, Freestyle Design, Most Visited Booth and Comprehensive Communication categories.

In the Best Modular Booth Design the top honors went to Tecnoazucar, while Comercial Caribex and Humidores Habana walked away with mentions.

In the Freestyle Design category, the award went to Internacional Cubana de Tabaco S.A, with CubaRon S.A getting a mention. The most visited booth of all was Corporación CIMEX.

Just another highlight of the award ceremony was the announcement of the Habanosommelier Contest winners, in which Cuba’s Pedro Tejeda grabbed top honors, followed by Venezuela’s Jose Gregorio Pereira and Britain’s Peter Dobrontei.

As to the photography contest, the big prize winner was Cuba’s Brian Collazo, followed by fellow Cuban photographer Heriberto Gonzalez (first place), Fábrica del Arte in second place and Kilander William in third place.

The winner of the blind tasting contest was Cuba’s Osiris Oramas, general manager and habanosommelier at the La Barca Restaurant, run by Habaguanex S.A.

During his closing keynote speech, Tabacuba director general Hernán Aguilar underscored the evolution of the Habano product in the course of these years and praised the more positive going of the industry.

At the same time, he extolled the relaunches of different brands, like Vegueros, which pays tribute to the men and women who have dedicated their lives to such a genuine Cuban trade.
