November 26, 2016 marked the date when Portugal organized, with the help of our exclusive Distributor for Habanos, S.A. EMPOR Import and Export, S.A., and the Embassy of Cuba in Portugal, the seventh edition of the Habano Day. The VII Habanos Day took place at the elegant Espacio Montes Claros Lisbon Secret Spot restaurant in Monsanto, Lisbon.

The VII Habanos Day started out with a candid homage paid to the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro. All participants, about 200 people, remained silent for one minute to honor the late Commander in Chief and signed a book of condolence.

This event was dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Cohiba brand, in which the figure of Fidel Castro was always present. The Cuban leader was the first person to notice that the cigar he used to smoke and that accompanied him for many years, should become a new brand that could show the roots and traditions of the Cuban tobacco industry. This much and the work of Celia Sánchez and a group of collaborators and connoisseurs of the product, joined hands to give rise to the flagship Cohiba brand.

The 7th Habanos Day dedicated its opening session to making a historical account of the Cohiba brand and its inseparable link with Fidel Castro. That was followed by a chronology of all the brand’s launches made by Cubatabaco and Habanos, S.A. ever since.

Cognac Hine Rare VSOP was chosen to demonstrate an elegant combination with the Chola 1864 Regional vitola for Portugal of the Juan López brand, in a tasting program of extraordinary quality.

Later on, the Habanos alliance between the Cohiba Pirámides Extra and the Sandeman Tawny 30 years old and Sandeman Vau Vintage 2011 wines unfolded.

The event came to a close with the competition for the longest ash and the puffing of a Vegeros brand’s Tapados, accompanied by cocktails blended with Havana Club 7 years.

During the intermission, cigars made by two experienced Cuban cigar rollers, alongside Mojitos and Daiquiris - Havana Club, Mateus Rosé Sparkling, Beluga Vodka, Gin N3 and Porto Tonic Sandeman.

In the evening gala, EMPOR Import and Export, S.A., Exclusive Distributor for Habanos, S.A., offered the Habano Cohiba Genios of the Maduro 5 line, as it presented the arrival in Portugal of Cohiba Short mechanized puritos.
