The Festival Opens

With the presentation of the new products Habanos S.A. will unveil this year and a spectacular concert staged by Leo Brouwer and his guests at the Havana Grand Theater, the 13th Habano Festival officially kicked off Monday night

During their opening remarks, Jorge Luis Fernandez Maique and Buenaventura Jimenez Sanchez-Cañete, co-presidents of Habanos S.A., underscored the positive results in the sale of premium cigars despite the tough international context and the ever-increasing antismoking laws recently implemented in Europe.

Regardless of that scenario, habanos continue to be products highly coveted and sought after all around the world, thanks to their high quality.

Also during the opening ceremony, Ana Lopez, director of Marketing for Habanos S.A., presented the novelties to be unveiled in the course of this festival, including the new Partagas line, the Series E No. 2 (ring gauge 54, 140mm long, factory vitola Duke) and the Series D No. 5, also by Partagas.

She also announced that during these days habano smokers will have the chance to taste two new products, the H. Upmann Half Corona –a short-format habano thought out for those who want to puff on it at any time as well as for those who start in the world of habanos- and the Montecristo No. 2 Gran Reserva Cosecha 2005, the very first reserve from this brand featuring an exclusive numbered production that could be tasted during the closing gala dinner.

The night came to an end with a one-and-only concert by Cuban composer and conductor Leo Brouwer, who was joined onstage by Balkan performer Edin Karamazov, one of the world’s top lute players who has recorded albums with Sting, and Cordova-born guitarist Jose Manuel Hierro.
